Notes: “Chick” is a nickname given to Strand by her father. Her real first name is Mildred.

Helped co-found Canyon Cinema with Bruce Baillie and edited three issues of the organization’s Cinemanews newsletter.

Studied anthropology at UC Berkeley and ethnography at UCLA. She also taught filmmaking for over 30 years at Occidental College.

1996: Recipient of AFI’s Maya Deren Independent Film and Video Artists Award.
