Notes:
Made close to 400 films in his career. The Criterion Collection DVD Brakhage: An Anthology only offers a small, but important, fraction of that.

Was one of cinema’s main theorists and he wrote several books about film, including the highly influential Metaphors on Vision.

Most of his films are silent, although he did dabble in some projects that included a soundtrack.

1986: Recipient of AFI’s Maya Deren Independent Film and Video Artists Award.
