Two great articles are now up at the Museum of the Moving Image website:
1) Ed Halter’s “Recycle It” traces the history of incorporating found footage into films from the early days of cinema to the Internet. He includes the work of many underground filmmakers, including Bruce Conner, Craig Baldwin, Bryan Boyce, Ken Jacobs, Yvonne Ranier and many more.
2) “Director Without Borders” by David Cairns is an excellent overview of the work of underground pioneer — and largely forgotten — Shirley Clarke, director of The Connection, The Cool World and Portrait of Jason. We’re going to get a Clarke page up on the UFG hopefully sooner than later.
